I spent a few days working on this site, moving a few items around and changing the content of the index page and the sidebar. It’s still not quite where I’d like it to be, but I’m happy with it for now. Next up will be add a few more of my github repos to the sidebar, and hosting those repos on heroku instances. My dedicated EC2 instance which used to host this site and several node.js projects will then be used solely for hosting my private git repos and an OpenVPN server.
In other news, my dad has started an online medical journal in collaboration with a few other doctors, and he is looking to get PubMed to index the same. PubMed requires online journals to submit an abstract of all published articles in a specific XML DTD. My dad was originall planning on getting a clerk to copy-paste the articles to create said XML files, but I convinced him to sanitize the content of his posts so that I can parse them with a ruby script and generate the XML for him. This involved introducing him to the Markdown format and the awesome StackEdit online Markdown editor. He semes quite happy with it, especially since StackEdit lets him directly publish to the journal, which is (currently) hosted on Blogger.
